What People are Saying about rRest

  • Before working with rREST™ I was very stuck, dealing with PTSD and not able to reach previous levels of success. Within just 3 months of working together, I have manifested an amazing relationship, money is starting to flow again, and I feel happy and energized when I wake up and all day long.

When I first went to see Dr. Sholes, I couldn’t see any solution to these problems and as was my normal go-to solution, I was contemplating suicide (again) as a way out.

Through many rREST™ sessions with Dr. Sholes, I have created a compassionate and loving relationship with myself, enabling me to have a more honest, joyful, and loving relationship with my family and my husband.  I have also discovered my passion and found a way to realize by building a business as a rREST™Practitioner helping others eliminate their stress reaction patterns to find inner peace.

    Valarie

Since our rREST™ sessions, I am a very joyous woman attending another aerospace engineering conference this week.  The stress and tension I used to feel at these male-dominated conferences are gone! This was a huge breakthrough for me. I can think clearly and freely and joyously communicate. This has never been the case previously.

rRest Removes Your Buttons

The Origin of Your Button

You know how sometimes you feel like something or someone just pushes your buttons? Annoying right? We want one thing and yet we find ourselves with another. Wouldn’t it be great if you didn’t have any buttons to push? Where did these buttons come from in the first place? When we were little, we all had experiences that were emotionally traumatic. They might not seem traumatic from the adult perspective, but they were devastating when we were young. For example, this trauma could have arisen from something as simple and common as having your pacifier taken away for good. From the perspective of you as a baby, that could have felt like the end of the world as you knew it.

When we had this initial trauma, our barely developed brain learned a stress response pattern to “handle it” and survive that moment. As children, with an underdeveloped prefrontal cortex or adult forebrain to help us reason through the situation, all we had to work with is the “flight or fright or fight” survival mechanism of the limbic brain.

The Button Gets Embedded

Later every time something similar happened, we got triggered again - our button got pushed, over and over again. This repetition reinforced that same stress pattern and making that stress response more and more of an automatic habit for the mind and body. For example, we might have lost a toy, a game, a friend, a pet, a loved one, and each and every time it pushed our buttons. As an adult, let’s say we lose a business deal or break up a romantic relationship, then we may find ourself unable to use our rational brain to cope no matter how hard we try. Without intending to, we find ourselves throwing the same tantrum, either internally or externally, as we did when we were two and “lost” our pacifier. This lack of control is exhausting and can also bring on feelings of guilt and shame as we think we are adults and should be able to manage the situation better. But by the time we are adults, these patterns are well ingrained and automatic. Our buttons are firmly embedded making us extremely vulnerable to being triggered. And the automatic reaction that results from our buttons being pushed is usually not very effective, useful, or appropriate. We have all been there!

The Button Lives in the Subconscious

Therapy tries to address these dysfunctional or maladaptive behaviors or emotions, but it works only slowly at best. That’s because you don’t have conscious access to changing the buttons that trigger your stress habits. These damn buttons live in your subconscious mind: The neurochemical mechanism of the button is the original traumatic memory that lives deep in the implicit memory banks of the limbic system.

Let's Lose the Button

rREST™ uses biofeedback of the stress response -- just like a lie detector -- to get underneath the button, to access the trauma and see what happened. Once this initial implicit memory is revealed to us through rREST™, that memory is automatically filtered and updated by the adult forebrain. Our adult minds rarely experience the child's trauma as threatening anymore. After the rREST™ when we sleep that night, this updated memory gets consolidated back into long term memory. This creates a complete shift in behavior by the next morning, and people experience this change at all levels of their being: physiological, neurological, emotional and energetic.

Positive and Negative Stress

Eustress, or positive stress, is useful as it has us grow and evolve:
  • Motivates, focuses energy
  • Is short-term
  • Is perceived as within our coping abilities
  • Feels exciting
  • Improves performance
  • Makes us grow and expand
Elite athletes, for instance, realize that to perform at their peak, they need to have just enough positive stress or eustress to push them to get better. We all can benefit from eustress.

Distress, or negative stress, has the following characteristics:

  • Causes anxiety or concern
  • Can be short- or long-term
  • Is perceived as outside of our coping abilities
  • Feels unpleasant
  • Decreases performance
  • Can lead to mental and physical problems
Distress, on the other hand, can completely throw an athlete off their game. Most people experience way too much distress which can keep them from being the best version of themselves.

Stress: The Silent Killer of High Performance

High-performance athletes, highly successful entrepreneurs, highly effective coaches, and corporate leaders have something in common.  They generate a clear vision for success. They get in the flow. They stay in the flow. And, they rapidly move toward success.

That is until breakdowns happen because they miss blind spots, or obstacles that are not readily apparent, but they prevent them from staying in the flow. These blind spots are the stress patterns that came about from unresolved early emotional trauma. The problem is that no matter how much success they may have had in the past, these blind spots can get in their way, kick them out of the flow, sabotage their efforts, and lead them to burnout.
LOSE THE BUTTON
The reason that breakdowns have such an impact is that all humans are mentally and emotionally wired to stay safely in their comfort zone. This is especially true for highly creative, intelligent, and sensitive people who often see opportunities in adversity with their creative mind, but their sensitive limbic system does not see the same opportunity. So, there is this gap between what the forebrain sees as possible opportunity to grow and evolve, and the limbic brain which wants to stay safe in the comfort zone.

When breakdowns happen, the ability to get back in the flow, rapidly and easily, can be the difference between successfully competing or failing.  This ability to bounce back after adversity is called emotional resilience. High-stress situations take a toll on performance, mental health, and physical health unless people also have a very high emotional resilience.

The good news is that these blind spots can be eliminated with  rREST™ to create a high level of emotional resilience so you can manifest your vision with more ease and speed.

How rRest Got Developed

The rREST™ technique, rapid Reprogramming of Emotional Stress Technique, was developed in 2019 by UCSF trained neuroscientist Dr. Cindy Sholes. It is an innovative technology that integrates cutting edge developments in neuropsychology with alternative modalities including kinesiology, mindfulness meditation, acupressure/acupuncture, and the chakra system of the Vedic tradition.

rREST™ works by integrating stressful implicit memories into conscious processing. This effectively neutralizes the stress pattern so that it is not easily triggered into emotional reactivity. The process builds a connection between the thinking mind (prefrontal cortex) and the emotional mind (limbic system) so that more conscious choice is available.
rREST™ is a refinement of a well-established and scientifically substantiated method called NET (Neuro Emotional Technique). NET focuses on removing the neuro emotional blocks that may aid in the ability of the body to naturally repair physical conditions such as headaches, body pains, organ dysfunctions as well as anxiety, self-sabotaging behaviors. From the therapist’s perspective, rREST™ is a simpler technique than NET, and it can be done at a distance instead of in person. This makes rREST™ much more accessible to both the therapist and the client. rREST™ creates more substantial long-term results by finding and integrating the original emotional trauma that began the stress pattern in the first place.
